Sharing with applications on Facebook

Pt. 9 of 10 | 1:21 |

How to keep your Facebook account private and secure

Thursday August 5, 2010
Many

facebook.com" target="_blank">Facebook applications

will request

access to your account

when you're installing them. Some may not and will only be able to use and view the parts of your profile that you've made public. If you want to

keep your Facebook profile secure

then the best idea may be to either

deny access

to the application or not install it at all.

Show Notes

- Facebook applications do not have to have access to all parts of your account.

- When you install an application, you'll probably see something asking what you will allow it to do.

- It could be permission to access your basic

profile information

which is name, profile picture, gender, etc.

- It could also ask to be allowed to send you email to the email address you used when signing up for Facebook.

- You can change that to an

anonymous email address

by clicking on Change and then selecting the second address from the dropdown.

- If you don't want an application to have access to these things then simply don't install it.
