Mastering a few keyboard shortcuts can help you to further take control of your inbox. Remembering even a few of the most commonly needed shortcuts like reply or forward mean you can keep your hand off the mouse and make rapid-fire responses to people that have sent you messages.

- Click on the Settings link at the top right of your Gmail window.

- In the first window that appears (the General tab), you can turn keyboard shortcuts on or off. The default is off.

- Once keyboard shortcuts are enabled, you can bring up a list of shortcuts by pressing Shift + '?' in any Gmail window.

Gmail keyboard shortcuts

- Shift + '?' - Call up the keyboard shortcuts list.

- Shift + 'c' - Compose a new message.

- Shift + 'r' - Replies to the email you're currently reading in a new window.

- 'z' - Undo the last action (i.e. restore a deleted message).

- Shift + '3' (#) - Delete the current message.

- Ctrl + 's' - Save message as draft.
