Firefox allows you to take control of your privacy and security settings. Using the installed default settings gives a fair balance of privacy and security and ease of use. However, it's a good idea to change the settings so they're more in line with your own needs and preferences.

- Click on Tools and then Options to get click on the Security tab.
- Make sure the check box beside Warn me when sites try to install add-ons is checked.
- The next two options are helpful to protect against phishing and other online attacks. Check the boxes beside these two as well.
- Under Passwords, you can choose whether or not to have Firefox remember your frequently entered passwords.
- Use a master password puts a layer of protection on your passwords. If you choose a difficult to guess or crack password, this ensure that only you can access and use your stored passwords.
- Click on Settings under Warning Messages to edit how and when you receive security warning messages from Firefox.
- Click on the Privacy tab.
- Choose from the options here to alter how long Firefox stores web browsing history, whether downloads and searches are remembered, how cookies are handled and more.
