The Spotlight is a quick and simple way to find whatever you're looking for on your Mac. Spotlight returns results lightning fast as it indexes your files in the background. With Spotlight, simply type in what you're looking for, get your results and go.

You'll find Spotlight in the upper-right hand corner of your desktop. It's a small magnifying glass icon.
Or
Pressing Cmnd + Space bar will bring up the Spotlight search box.
- Type in the specific word you're looking for. As you type, a list will appear displaying files by type. As you continue to type, results will be honed down.
- Clicking on Show All in the Spotlight search box will open a new window displaying every file, folder, Internet history entry, email etc. that contains your search term.
- There's a Spotlight search bar in every window on your Mac.
- Going to System Preferences and selecting Spotlight, you can choose to include or exclude specific folders or files from Spotlight search results.
