In addition to sending and receiving emails on your BlackBerry, you can also send and receive text messages. SMS is a great way to send a short and near instant message to a contact when a phone call is not required.

- On the BlackBerry Storm, the SMS and Messages icon displays a red star to indicate there's an unread message. Other BlackBerry handsets will display a new message in different ways.

- Click on the SMS And Messages icon to see your messages.

- Click on a message to read its full contents.

- Click on the Reply icon in the to send a response.

- Press the BlackBerry menu key and from the menu, select Send to deliver the message.

- To send messages to one of your contacts, open the Contacts application, click on the person's entry, press the BlackBerry menu key and select from the contact-specific options.

- From the Contacts list, you can send an email, SMS or MMS message as well as placing a phone call.
