Show Notes

- Open up the Android Market and run a search for "data counter."

- You should see the free Data counter widget listed at the top. Tap on that, then tap Install.

- Once that's installed, go back to your home screen.

- Tap and hold over a blank section of a home screen and select Widgets from the menu that appears.

- Scroll down to Data counter and select one of the two sizes. Choose your background and font color and tap Add widget.

- You'll see the widget appear and notice that it separates data into cellular and Wi-Fi. Your cell phone bill won't be charged for Wi-Fi transmissions so it's the Cell category that you'll want to keep an eye on.

- Tap the widget to enter the settings screen. Here, you can tap Statistics to see data usage stats or Configure this widget to change specific settings. Tap Configure this widget.

- You're now going to want to tap Custom monthly start date, and assign the start date to whenever your last billing period started. Tap OK. Now, tap Time span. Select monthly from custom date.

- Now, the widget will display data usage through your billing period so you can track your usage and stay under your limit.
