Windows Vista's Aero effects make for impressive eye candy. However, this graphical feast comes at a cost to system performance. We'll show you how to turn off some or all of these of these features and improve system performance at the same time.

- In the Control Panel, type "glass" in the Search box
- Click on the Enable or disable transparent glass on windows result.
- To turn off only window transparency, uncheck the Enable transparency checkbox and then click on OK, and you're done.
Or
- To turn off Aero completely, instead click on Open classic appearance properties for more color options.
- In the Appearance Settings window, click on Windows Vista Basic under Color scheme, and click on OK.
