Windows Vista's User Account Control helps protect your computer by checking that any change, no matter how minor, is presented to the user for authorization. It's a good safety feature but gets annoying fast. Only experienced users should consider turning it off. If that's you, we have the step-by-step.

- Go to the Control Panel and type 'UAC' into the search box in the upper-right corner.
- Click on Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off.
- Uncheck the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer checkbox.
- Click on the OK button and restart your computer when prompted.
To turn UAC back on, follow these steps again, checking the box beside Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.
