Some people like to use software just the way it comes. Others like to alter it so it works the way they want it to. Adium gives you plenty of options you can change to customize and tweak Adium so it works the way you like to work. From the way it responds in your absence to the colors of messages, Adium lets you decide.

Download Adium for the Mac and follow along with this tutorial series
- Open Adium.
- Click on Adium and then select Preferences.
- The Accounts tab lets you see your existing accounts and you can add or remove them.
- The General tab lets you toggle message logging, determine which key presses send messages, and how to look for updates.
- Under the Personal tab you can add a picture or icon and include information about yourself.
- On the Preferences tab you can totally change the way Adium looks. From colors to emoticons it's all up to you. Change the theme, window style and even the sizing.
- Under the Messages tab you can change the message style, display user icons and alter your font and background.
- Under the Status tab you can determine how Adium behaves when you're away from your computer.
- Under the Events tab you can customize a number of Adium's actions and even set your own defaults and save them.
- On the File Transfer tab you can set a download location and have automatic file transfer should you desire to do so.
