While
TextExpander
comes with a nice selection ofSnippets
to get you started, it becomes most useful when youcreate your own Snippets
. Snippets can insert plain text, contain variables, and will generally make your life and your typing easier.Download this episode now

- Open System Preferences either from the Dock or the Apple Menu.
- Click on
- A Snippet is the text that is expanded and inserted when you type the abbreviation.
- Some Snippets are included with TextExpander by default.
- To insert the date type in "ddate" and the it expands out to Wednesday; March 4, 2009 for example.
- To insert the time just type "ttime" and you get 12:10 PM for exmaple.
- It sometimes helps to have Abbreviations for your snippets that you won't accidentally use. Like putting the double "d" on "ddate."
- Snippets let you enter text quickly and easily.
- Click on
TextExpander
to open it up and click on theSnippets tab
