Types of projects

- From the New Project dialog you can choose an option that will let you start making music right away.

- Select the Electric Guitar project and click Choose. You will be asked to name the project and you can change the tempo, time signature and key.

- Click Create and you'll see the guitar track on the left pane. On the right pane you'll see a guitar amp and pedals where you can change the effects on the instrument.

- If you create a Voice project you will see that you have both a male voice and female voice in the left pane and on the right pane you will see different voice sounds. Each of these can be edited to your liking.

- By creating a Loop project you will notice there are no tracks on the left. When you choose loops on the right a track will automatically be created.

- In the loop browser you will notice color-coded loops. Green is for midi loops and blue is for audio loops, and each lists a tempo and length.

- Melody loops have a key as well, but both the key and tempo will automatically be adjusted by GarageBand to suit your project.

- By creating a Podcast project you will see a track for artwork, male and female voices, and jingles. The track editor in the middle allows you to mark where the artwork changes, where the chapter changes and where URLs are displayed.

- You can convert your podcast to a video podcast by clicking Track at the top and selecting Show Movie Track. You'll be warned that a video track will replace your artwork track.

- On the right, in the media browser, you'll be able to drag elements into the track to complete your podcast.

- From the project menu you can also click on Learn to Play to get basic lessons with interactive videos or click Lesson Store to get more information.

- By clicking Magic GarageBand you can select an instrument to perform on and select a style of music to perform to.
