Show Notes
- Expansion card slots are typically found at the bottom of the case.
- From the top you will generally find the video card first, slotted into a PCI express slot or an AGP slot.
- There will be a number of slots below, generally PCI slots. This is where you will find USB cards, sound cards, etc.
- Your motherboard may have an integrated video card.
- If there is an integrated video card you'll see a monitor port near the top at the rear of the computer, close to the power supply.
- You can always install another video card which will supersede the onboard one.
- Video cards will often require additional power that goes directly to the card.
- Before removing a video card or any other card you need to first examine how the card is attached.
- First you will need to remove any screws that are attached and then you can slowly rock the card out so long as there are no tabs keeping it secure.
- Some high-powered video cards may be double width and take up two slots of space.
- To install a video card, simply slide it into place, making sure that the brackets are level, then push the card in and replace the screws.
- The same method is used to install most expansion cards.
