The new iPod Shuffle is the tiniest Shuffle yet, but one of the ways they got it so small was taking the player controls off the player itself and putting them on the headphone cord. That means they're always within easy reach, but the new interface, consisting of a center button, a plus sign and an minus sign, takes some getting used to.

- The new iPod Shuffle player interface consists of a center button, a plus sign and an minus sign.

- The plus and minus act as volume up and volume down when you're playing music, but they also double as ways to quickly skip through playlists.

- To play or pause a track, press the center button once, quickly.

- To skip to the next track, press the center button twice.

- To rewind to the previous track, press the center button three times.

- To activate VoiceOver and hear what track is playing, press and hold the center button.

- To enter playlist mode, press and hold the center button and keep holding until you hear a beep; select the playlist you want by pressing the center button when you hear the name of the playlist; you can quickly skip to the next playlist name by pressing + or -.
