- Having selected the drive where you want to install Windows 7 the install process can begin. Click Next.
- Windows starts the process of copying files.
- Expanding files.
- It also installs features and updates.
- After installing files Windows 7 will reboot automatically.
- As it comes back up it will show that it's updating registry settings.
- It will also show starting services and then setup will continue.
- The install complete and will will reboot the computer again.
- As it restarts Windows 7 will prepare the computer for running Windows 7 for the first time.
- It will check the video performance.
- Now you'll have a screen where you need to pick a user name and give a name to your PC. Click Next.
- Now pick a password and retype it. Note that you must put in something for a hint or the Next button will not become active. Click Next.
- Put in your Windows 8 Product Key. Check if you want Windows 7 to be activated when you go online. Then click Next.
- Click Use recommended settings and you'll automatically go to the next screen.
- Here you'll pick your time zone, check that the date and time are correct, and indicate if you want to utilize daylight savings time. Click Next.
- Windows 7 will prepare your desktop and you're done!

Yes, your old copy is kept there though it's not used. If you don't want anything from inside any of those folders you can simply delete the main folder.

You didn't mention that my old copy of XP would be kept on the hard drive and it would not be usable. What is the purpose of the and how would I remove it properly? I installed Win7 Home Pro. I would appreciate an answer. Thanks in advance. Say Hello to Ted. He directed me to butterscotch.
