- Our Windows 7 install is complete.
- All we need to do is to transfer files and settings that we backed up using Easy Transfer on Windows XP.
- In Windows 7 click on Start and then on All Programs.
- Then click on Accessories, then System Tools, and then on Windows Easy Transfer.
- Easy Transfer comes up and just click Next.
- You need to indicate how you're going to transfer the data - Cable, network, or external or USB drive.
- Now it asks which computer you are using now. If you're in Windows 7 it's your "new" computer so click that.
- It now asks if Easy Transfer has already saved the data from the old computer. The answer is yes.
- We select our USB drive and you would select the device you backed up to.
- Click Open and select the Easy Transfer file which has an extension of MIG.
- Easy Transfer will and you just have to click Transfer.
- Your settings and data will be transferred over.
- In a couple of instances we had some problems with the MIG file which makes having a solid backup even more important.
- You can see a summary of the transfer if you wish and you're asked to restart the computer.
