- Download the Easy Transfer for Windows XP tool.
- Install the Easy Transfer program.
- To find Easy Transfer just click on Start, then on All Programs, and then on Accessories.
- Now under Accessories click on System Tools and you'll see Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. Click on that.
- The dialog comes up and you'll want to click Next.
- It asks if this is your old computer or new computer.
- Since XP is your old operating system this is your Old computer.
- Select this and click Next.
- Now you have to select the method of transfer. You can use cable, network, removable USB drive, and network drive.
- Pick the option that works best for you. In our example we're using a 4GB USB thumb drive.
- Click Next.
- Now you have to select what to transfer. Settings? Files? Or both? Make your choice and click Next.
- The wizard starts scanning the files and settings you've selected and then tells you how much space it will take.
- Note that at the time XP was launched 1.44MB floppy drives were in use so the calculations are done based on those disks.
- Click OK.
- The transfer will finish, click Finish and you're ready to start the Windows 7 install.
