Meet Flickr. You're soon to be best friend. Part social site, part photo gallery, video and image host, Flickr is arguably the best way to store, share and see your photos online. In this first installment of our 10-part series on the go-to online photo site, we'll focus on getting set up with an account.

Now that you've signed up for your Flickr account, it's time to get personal. Choose an image to upload and use as your buddy icon, select your own personal Flickr URL to share with family and friends and input as many or as few personal details as you'd like to share with the Flickr community at large.

As Flickr is a photo storage and sharing site, the first thing you'll want to do after carving out your own little space on Flickr is to start uploading some pics.

As your image collection grows on Flickr, the importance of keeping things organized will be apparent. Best to get started with the practice of organizing your photos before your gallery becomes a potpourri of photos or a seemingly random mish-mash or images.

Flickr is fine as an online repository for all your images. However, the true power of Flickr comes when you connect with other Flickr users, friends and family to share images, join groups and just generally connect.

This is where the community feel of Flickr really comes into play. On the site, you can search for photos that are of interest to you, follow other Flickr users and get a dialogue going by commenting on your favorite (or least favorite, if you're so inclined) pics.

If you have a mobile phone and a Flickr account, it's easy to post to your photostream from anywhere, no computer required. Simply snap a pic of what you see and if it turned out as you'd hoped, send it over the cellular network to your Flickr photostream and share what you saw. You can also send pics via email and get an embed code to show your favorite photos on your website.

With Flickr you can see photos from around the world. The World Map lets you see exactly where those pictures were taken. It's like a vacation from your computer chair! You can also tag your own photos and place them on a map: perfect for adding reference to your vacation photos.
