There seems to be no end to Twitter's popularity. As a result, there's no shortage of programs you can use to access it from your computer. TweetDeck is free and available for both PC and Mac. That's nice because if you have both PCs and Macs you can use a similar program on both.

- Once installed run TweetDeck.

can run in multiple-column mode so you can

see current tweets, replies, and direct messages

- If you prefer you can run TweetDeck in single column mode.

TweetDeck can be used for Facebook updates as well

- The program has many configurable options so it can act and look how you want.

- When you want to send a tweet just click the speech bubble icon and a text box appears.

- You can type your message and see exactly how many characters you have left.

also has a built-in function for shortening URL's using bit.ly, digg, tinyURL, and others.
