How to root your Motorola Droid

In order to continue the root process. you're going to need to
perform a factory reset
. We show you how to use yourDroid's recovery reboot menu
so you can continuerooting your Motorola Droid
. Specifically, we'll show you how to install the rooted ROM andupgrade to OS 2.2 Froyo

- Power off your Motorola Droid.
- Now slide out the keyboard, then simultaneously press the X key and the power button.
- Suddenly, you'll see the Android system recovery screen with an android on it.
- Use the rocker button to move down and highlight wipe data/factory reset. Press the rocker in.
- You'll see activity on the screen and it will tell you when it's completed.
- Now, use the rocker to move down one more to wipe cache partition.
- This is generally fast and it will also show when it's completed.
- Now, move down and select install and press the rocker.
- Select Allow update.zip installation and press the rocker.
- It won't appear that anything happened, but it did.
- Now select Install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated) and press the rocker. Let it go until it says it's complete.
- Lightly tap the power button and move the cursor to highlight reboot system now. Press the rocker and the phone will reboot.
- When it starts to come back up you'll see the Onix logo and eventually you'll want to highlight and select Setup menu.
- Your Motorola Droid is now rooted and running Android OS 2.2 Froyo!
