Pt. 4 of 5 | 2:02 |

How Do I take better photos with the iPhone 4

Thursday January 20, 2011
In this episode we show you

how to use the iPhone 4 flash

as well as the

iPhone 4's high dynamic range

feature. While you probably know what a flash is you may not know

what high dynamic range is

. This is a feature that rapidly takes two photos and combines them so that your pictures will show both lighter and darker areas.

Show Notes

- While in camera mode you can tap the lightning bolt icon in the upper-left to set your flash to on, off or auto.

- Off turns your flash off, on makes it go off each time you snap a picture, while auto will let your iPhone decide what's best.

- Beside the flash button you'll see HDR. Tap this if you want to turn high dynamic range photography on.

- With HDR on you'll be able to see details in both bright areas and dark areas of your photographs. This works by taking two photos in rapid succession and combining the images.

- This allows you to shoot images in darker conditions but is not as well suited for action photography due to possible image splitting.

- Another thing to keep in mind is that HDR photos will save two pictures and therefore take up twice as much memory.

- Keep in mind that neither the flash nor HDR functionality are supported with the front-facing camera.
