- Encryption takes information that's readable and renders it unreadable.

- The initial data, in cryptography, is called the plaintext.

- The data is put through an algorithm, called the cipher, which scrambles it.

- The result is unreadable information called the ciphertext.

- In order to decrypt the information, you have to have the appropriate key.

- Encryption is used to protect documents, wireless networks, Bluetooth headsets and much more.
