and don't know what it means. A tech support person asks you "

What version of the BIOS are you running

?" and you think that's a good question. We'll clear up the confusion for you.

BIOS stands for Basic Input Output System.



- The BIOS is hardware in the form of a chip.

- The BIOS is the first thing to run when you turn on your computer.

- Tbe BIOS checks and initializes devices on your machine.

- The BIOS makes sure everything is okay before the operating system starts to load.

- The BIOS can be upgraded.

- You can check the site of the manufacturer of the BIOS on your machine and look for an update. Also, be sure you know what version you currently have.

- When the computer is running through the BIOS, you have the option to go in and make changes.

- The screen will tell you what key(s) to press to enter the BIOS, also called setup.

- Most common are DELETE and F2, another example is CTRL+S.
