- The term hacker is often misunderstood as there are both good and bad hackers.
- To help distinguish them they've been given names.
- A black hat is a hacker that creates viruses, worms, attacks networks and does other malicious things. Like in cowboy movies the black hats are the bad guys.
- A grey hat hacker is something totally different. They often hack something and their action may be illegal, but they are doing it for a good purpose.
- Grey hat hackers often find flaws in operating systems that can then be patched. They are extremely talented and they use their powers for good.
- White hat hacker is a term sometimes used to refer to security professionals.
- So some hackers often do their work to make sure that malicious hackers are not able to expose security flaws.
