- In Windows 7 right-click on the My Computer icon and select Properties.
- If you don't have the My Computer icon on your desktop click Start, highlight Computer, right-click, and select Properties.
- Both ways take you to the same place.
- Now, on the left-hand side click on System Protection.
- When the
System Properties
dialog opens click on the System Protection tab.- You'll see a section labeled System Restore.
- Down at the bottom you'll see Create and this is where you can create a restore point.
- A "restore point" captures key information about the status of your computer at that exact time and date.
- It doesn't have an impact on documents, music, or other data.
- It's good to create a restore point at a time when Windows is running well.
- In this way you can always return to this point if something goes wrong.
- To create a restore point just click Create.
- You'll be prompted to give you restore point a name. Make is something that means something to you like "Computer Running Well" or "Before Installing Such-and-Such application."
- Windows will create the restore point.
- Just close out and you're done.
