An email header contains a lot of interesting information about a received message. When it was sent and from who, sure, but you can also

find the IP address from an email

, and even the path an email took before it reached you. We'll show you

what an email header is

and where you can find it.

Show Notes

- The "email header" contains information about senders and recipients for the selected email.

- While it's not usually necessary, we'll show you

where to find the email header

.

- In most email clients, like Thunderbird, you normally see just basic information.

- In Thunderbird, if you click View and then Headers and select All, you'll see the display expand.

- This is the complete "email header" and it contains all the routing information for that email.

- It shows what servers the email passed through, IP addresses, and so on.

- For the most part, you don't need all that information but it is handy to know where to find it.
