What is Blu-ray

- Blu-ray is an optical storage medium just like DVDs or CDs.

- Blu-ray gets its name from the blue laser that is used to read the discs, unlike the red laser used for other optical media.

- While Blu-ray discs are ideal for storing HD video content (and are most often used in retail stores for that purpose) they can also hold all sorts of other data too.

- A single layer Blu-ray disc can store roughly 25 GB of content. A dual-layer disc can store roughly 50 GB.

- You can find or install Blu-ray drives into your desktop or notebook computer, and even burn Blu-ray discs with the right optical drive. Blu-ray drives can be either external or internal.

- In order to watch HD Blu-ray content, you'll need not only a Blu-ray drive, but also an HDCP-enabled monitor and a video card that can play HDCP content.

- HDCP is the copywrite protection that is put onto Blu-ray discs.
