Some

terms used in computers and computing

Show Notes

- In computers, the term "burning" refers to the act of

recording data to a CD or DVD

.

- The word "burn" is used to describe the act of copying something to a disc, as in "I'm going to burn these songs to DVD."

- The odd term "ripping" refers to

copying files from a CD or DVD

.

- "Ripping" doesn't make sense but that's the term that's used even though nothing is physically ripped or shredded.

- By the same token, "burning" means recording data to media even though there are no flames involved.
