On a network, large or small, every computer has to have a
unique IP address

- DHCP is used by your router to automatically assign IP addresses to devices.
- It is possible to set IP addresses manually from DOS using the IPCONFIG command.
- It is much easier, however, to let DHCP do it for you.
- You can log into your router to check DHCP settings.
- In most cases you can set the beginning IP address, like 192.168.1.100.
- You can also set how many addresses DHCP is allowed to assign, like 50.
- When devices go to access your network, they are automatically assigned a unique IP address.
