- The term "ripping" pertains to

copying audio or video

from its source to a hard drive.

- Most often the source is removable media like a CD or DVD.

- When someone tells you to "rip" your CD, they don't mean to break or tear it.

- Ripping takes the contents from the media and puts a copy of it onto your hard drive.

- Despite the sound of it, "ripping" does not hurt your CD or DVD or the material that's being ripped.

- Programs like Windows Media Player and iTunes are just two of many programs you can use to "rip" CDs and DVDs quickly and easily.
