Working with VoiceOver

Pt. 2 of 3 | 4:36 |

Introduction to the iPod Shuffle

Thursday May 21, 2009
The new iPod Shuffle uses a feature called VoiceOver to "read" the name of the track out to you when you press and hold the center button on the headphone's controls. Because the player doesn't have an LCD screen, this is the only way to find out what the tracks are, but the robotic VoiceOver voice may need a bit of coaching from you to give you what you want.

Show Notes

Tip #1: Edit the names of your tracks to the basics, or VoiceOver will read absolutely everything in the Title and Artist field, even if it's guest star information. You can highlight a track and choose Control-I (Command-I on the Mac), and then enter the various track information; you can use the buttons at the bottom left to skip to the next track, or choose the button on the bottom right to save and exit.

Tip #2: Make sure VoiceOver is speaking your language by selecting a track on your iPod Shuffle, clicking Control-I (or Command-I) and selection the Options tab. Look at the "VoiceOver Language" option, and change to the proper language.
