Delving into the Settings section of Google Reader, we have much more control over the way our feeds behave, how we want to read feeds and whether feeds or folders are shared or kept private. We also find out how to export our feeds from Google Reader and into another RSS reader.

- Click on Settings in the top-right corner of the Google Reader window.
- Under the Preferences tab, you can change the way Google Reader behaves when you log in and read feeds.
- The Subscriptions tab and feed foldering is covered in detail in episode 8 of this series.
- The Folders and Tags page allows you to choose how feeds behave when tagged or starred. You can set feeds in a certain folder to be private while sharing other folders. You can also choose to have starred / foldered items automatically appear in your public page.
- The Goodies tab highlights some of the interesting and more advanced functions of Google Reader.
- The Import/Export tab allows you to export or your feeds to or from Google Reader. This is useful when switching feed readers or when trying to sync your feeds between Google Reader and, for example, a mobile phone RSS reader.
